I thought I knew what my Grandpa would want when his “time” came. Had it been left up to me I would have initiated a DNR (do not resuscitate) and would have felt very secure that I was doing what he would have wanted. Come to find out I was 100% wrong.
When he became hospitalized due to heart complications he wanted everything possible done to keep him alive. I mean everything. If there was an option to be cryogenically frozen, he would have chosen it!
I feel very fortunate he was able to communicate his wants and needs so we could honor his wishes when the time came. Every family isn’t so lucky. While having these important conversations can seem unnecessary now, imagine being at your Grandpa’s beside and not knowing what he would want.
Don’t delay in having these very important conversations with your loved ones.
In fact, start the process today. I promise you, you’ll be glad you did!
